The default method is probably better unless you have a good reason to do something more complex. :>

Please note that you can still not choose which devices a specific poller is polling. For that you need this patch: http://jira.observium.org/browse/OBS-2245 (its not merged upstream) Otherwise all your pollers will poll all the different customers devices at random.
