Currently tag is used as just additional information from syslog message or/and program. Normally tag is part of syslog header, it's always stored in db (but not used anywhere).
I think about use program/tag in alerts too..
Ie, example from Cisco IOS-XR:

Try latest revision, this should be fixed. if you find more syslog parse errors, also attach this debug lines for example.
