In my eyes the solution is pretty obvious, use DNS instead of /etc/hosts ;)

Hi Adam,
Thank you very much for the prompt response.
In fact, we had the same concern before writing this, as a device might have multiple IP addresses obviously that is why it was specifically mentioned that to show only the *DNS resolved IP address for the device name*, which is always going to be a single IP address unless there is a DNS load balancing situation.
Why we insist this feature is, we just use /etc/hosts file to provide DNS entries for the observium server and hence it is resolved only within the observium server not from outside. So if somebody wants to figure out the relevant IP address of the device to connect/trouble shoot etc. he/she has to do extra steps to figure out the IP address which is a waste of time and a productivity loss.

Hi Supun,
Observium uses hostname as the primary identifier because many devices have multiple IP addresses.
There are search facilities to find devices from IP addresses, and this is the correct way to do that.
We wouldn't really have any way of knowing which IP address to show for each device with the way the system works at the moment.
It's possible we could allow an IP address for each device to be selected as 'primary' to be shown in the UI, but I'm not sure this is a good idea.

Hi all,
We have a small suggestion, is it possible to add a new feature to display the IP address of the device ( DNS resolved IP of the device ) may be in front of the device name / or at the top of the device page etc. ( at any prominent place )
This is really helpful in identification and further trouble shooting etc., as most of the network engineers are dealing with the IP addresses rather than the hostname in day to day operations.
Thanks in advance.
