We used (at a former workplace) an external bash script to generate shorter SMS notifications with just the relevant variables. In our case, we had our own SMS gateway, so the script did an authenticated curl push into the web interface. It also sent condensed recovery notifications.

There's no reason that you couldn't use an external script to generate the "normal" alert notifications and recoveries for standard email delivery.

Kevin, great tip…I have made that change.

I would still like a way to have a different template for txt notifications…so I can shorten them etc…  Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

Tony,
We switched sending our emails to the SMS gateway instead of the text gateway of our carrier and its much better.
I believe Verizons SMS to email gateway is        number@vzwpix.com.   Its worth a try.

     Thank you

Subject: [Observium] questions about email alert notification formats

Hi, I have 2 questions about this.

First, is it possible to attach a notification format per contact.  We are sending out text alert notifications using number@vtext.com and I think the format is too big for vtext.com to accept.  Is it possible that on a contact, scale down the notification?

Second, is it possible to change the format of the general “recover” email?

thanks

Tony
