Not a direct solution to your issue, but you may change the relative size of green (ok) and red (alert) markers through configuration:

$config['frontpage']['map']['okmarkersize'] = 12; // Set the dotsize you want
$config['frontpage']['map']['alertmarkersize'] = 32; // Set the dotsize you want

This way alert markers can be as big as you want ;)
