This is as designed. The left hand panel is for extra information.

Its currently only really used on the device page, but the intention is for it to display either extra information, or for some information to move to it.

For example on the devices and ports list pages the search forms will move to the left along, perhaps with some new pie charts, leaving more vertical space for the list itself.

its happening in chrome and firefox?

also the new layout and style in my view is horrible, I preferred the old version! why u have to update :(
