Are you sure that you changed BOTH php.ini-files? there is one for CLI and one for apache. Something like: /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini /etc/php5/cli/php.ini

That's why I was looking to enable php errors via the browser to check for some hidden error/s

As the FAQ states this is usually due to your PHP memory limit. Edit your php.ini-file and increase the amount of memory PHP can use.
