Thanks for the quick response. At the moment I'd like to keep the severity 3/4/5 records. I'll put in a cron job to delete the severity 6/7 records on a regular basis.
It is a 'big' install, not as big as we hope it will get. Basically it's a CDN, so we have lots of big servers with lots of cores and lots of local disks. We're currently running well in excess of 100000 poller.php jobs every day.
I'll probably have some questions about scaling down the line.
