You are right - I have confused ifAlias with ifDescr.

Let's say that I have 1,000 Ethernet ports on Access Switches that are for desktop/laptop connections. These are going to be up/down randomly and I don't care. I don't want to investigate bandwidth or errors on them individually ALL of the time. I only want to do this when I am investigating a problem.

I cannot Admin Down these interfaces - users need to use them

I don't want to gather stats on them - because of storage/overhead/long polling

I don't want to manage ifAliases on them - what would I name them - users move and come and go all of the time.

I want to include uplinks and crosslinks and the device details only - not the end-user ports.

I just want to exclude them from Observium as 'Ignored'

How can I do that?
