Ours is also locked at a random spot in the sea, but when I zoom out, I can see land.
Perhaps your google maps part is broken? Maybe these are different issues?
I enter the street address that I would use in google maps in the location on the SNMP settings for the devices, but this does not
show the devices in the locations on Observium dashboard :/
Does anyone have an example syntax for a device they have working correctly?

Actually just tried on Google Maps directly and it finds the address fine.....
My address syntax:
building no. street name, city, zip/postcode

Its done by looking in the SNMP sysLocation field of your device. If you enter a valid address on your device then Observium will map it properly. Any string that Google Maps can translate to a location will usually work :)
