Lol. I’d say stop buying their stuff, but every Wi-Fi vendor seems to be trying to extort their customers with vendor lock-in monitoring systems.

Hi Adam,

As of a couple of weeks ago, the Cisco recommended route for reporting from the new family of Catalyst access points (e.g. 9136) seems to be:

[AP] <===> [WLC 9800] <===> [DNA Center] <===> [API support for 3rd party reports]

NB. DNA Center is specifically shown above because Prime seems to be heading towards end-of-life status.

How do they think you should be collecting AP status now?

Sadly, Cisco told me that the old-style SNMP status for all the WAPs connected to 9800 WLC is not supported... Has anyone else had any success?

Thanks

Hi Adam,

For the 9800 WLC, I see:

sysObjectID          .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.2530
sysDescr             Cisco IOS Software [Cupertino], C9800 Software (C9800_IOSXE-K9), Version 17.9.2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

The recent Catalyst 9136 series access points also support air quality monitoring - please let me know what you need (walk data etc.) to display the environmental data - it would be very useful.

Thanks again

Darren

I vaguely recall something about this recently, the 9800 is an IOS device that reports as IOS, rather than running the older WLC OS?

I can't remember the reason for the complexity, I think we just need to look at the ability to allow IOS devices to poll the old WLC MIBs, though obviously not globally as 99.9% of IOS doesn't do wifi.

What is the sysObjectID and sysDescr of this device?

Hi

Our organization recently upgraded from Cisco 5520 WLC to Cisco 9800 WLC.
In observium I get really good statistics about wireless client count and wireless ap count on the 5520 but not on the 9800.
I am not sure if this is something on observium side or cisco side.
But I wanted to ask if anyone has the same issue and if they found a solution. Or maybe this is just something that needs to be added.

Please let me know if there is any further information I can submit.

Best regards
Andri
