Hi Pieter,
it's mean you not changed php module on apache (it does not change automatically).
You need switch module something like this: sudo a2enmod php7.4 sudo a2dismod php7.0 sudo systemctl restart apache2
(but I not sure about your module names, check installed modules: a2query -m

I do have php7.4 installed but for some reason Observium still using 7.0.33

Fixed in r10991,
but sure, error can happened only on old php versions (less 7.1).
Just in 4 feb released actual php versions (8.0.2, 7.4.15 and 7.3.27) with fixed some critical secure issues.
