Precisely.. Something that gets me the required info and has there necessary functionality without hundreds of interdependent modules and superfluous functions that only serve to annoy and inundate with info...

Observium allows me to pull what I need without being intrusive....

When I started working at my job, before we were acquired and had a big corporate IT handle things, I found the printers under nagios. And they paged at night.

You could imagine my face when I got a text at 3am for a fucking toner.

Tom,

Well this that is fascinating and uplifting... also encouraging...   I will
see if I can track down the MIBs for said printers...   Also on the
wishlist are Zebra Label printers for the plant...    But one bridge at a
time...

That said is there some generic way, e.g. adding vendor ID's somewhere so
it will detect and as you say, know to poll with the JetDirect??

Excuse the noobiness...  I am quite green at all this...

Cheers,

Monitor ALL the things!

Getting it recognized as a printer is probably all that needs to happen.
There isn't that much actual code for toner stuff, just about everyone
uses the Jetdirect OIDs.
