Hello, thanks i think you are right, with a few option i could hold the ifindex, till a reboot of the linux-server. A Idea, how i could hold it or use the ifname instatt? (i know it is a little bit of topic) (It is a openvpn daemon and a debian server.)

If you could configure your server to always use the same ifindex for this vpn then Observium would use the same rrd file and it will comeback with its traffic history as any other interface that goes down and then up.
