Tom,
I've tried this as well and tried to separate the emails by syslocation under host match: location equals example county. This still has no effect, Which part have I screwed up royally?

Hi Stefano,
The old alerting system did more than host up/down, but this was probably the biggest hurdle for people to being able to disable the legacy system.
I'm going to have a look if the old one did anything the current one can't do with checkers but I think there might be nothing left.
If you were relying on the legacy system for host up/down only, you can definitely turn it off.
- Entity type: Device - Checker condition: device status = 0 - Host match: * (or whatever you want to monitor, only) - Entity match: *
will give you host up/down alerting.

Thanks, Stefano

Yup, you need a more recent version, device entity was added 17/4.

Actually we haven't updated in a while (we are an ITIL shop and updating can be a pain). Here is our version:
[root@yoda observium]# svn info /opt/observium/includes/definitions/entities.inc.php |grep ^Last Last Changed Author: sid3windr Last Changed Rev: 5005 Last Changed Date: 2014-02-18 19:28:55 +0100 (Tue, 18 Feb 2014)
Do we need to update?

Erik,
Are you on the latest version? (It's probably not in the stable branch yet?)
root@observium1:~# svn info /opt/observium/includes/definitions/entities.inc.php |grep ^Last Last Changed Author: sid3windr Last Changed Rev: 5331 Last Changed Date: 2014-04-17 01:00:32 +0200 (Thu, 17 Apr 2014)
root@observium1:~# grep device /opt/observium/includes/definitions/entities.inc.php $config['entities']['device']['id_field'] = 'device_id';

Is there a way for using the new alerting system to send an e-mail when a device goes down?
I see in the wiki that there is a "device_status" metric, but I can't figure out how to use it. There is no "Device" entity type when I try to make a new alert checker.
Is this feature still in development?
