Hi, I monitor currently 800+ devices on a single box, and doing it on 16 cores @ 3.5ghz,64GB ram and the RRD directory mounted on a raid SSD disk

With this setup, I can probably even get away with 1min polling.

Main points:

-          Lots of cores, I would suggest double what I have to start with, lots’ of cores AND high speed of the cores is important

-          SSD for RRD storage (straight mount, no symlink) (currently around 120gb in use)

-          DO spend the time on tuning snmp parameters (figuring out which devices are slow, and needs max-rep optimizations)

-          No-atime mounting of the file system

-          Play-around with thread settings of the poller.

If you have the hardware to spread it out over multiple boxes, go for it, you’ll get better performance for sure.

Subject: [Observium] Observium Hardware requirements

Hi Friends,

My company has a PRO Subscription and we plan to implement Observium horizontally:

-          Dedicated MySQL DB

-          Dedicated RRD and web interface

-          Main Poller

-          Maybe Poller #2

We need your advice about hardware requirements to poll ~2500 devices and ~100.000 ports.

Thanks,
