The hosts file is something you (or your predecessor or a coworker etc) did. Observium just uses the hosts name resolution just like any other app.

Yes, there is a hosts file. The entry was outdated. I changed the ip to the correct one.
With the last poll the server shows as online. problem solved! Thanks! That was a really fast answer!
But, this will lead to another question: does Observium generate the hosts file? Or do i have to maintain it manually, especially after such changes?
There are more old entries in it….
How can i get debugging output from the poller?

Changing IPs should be invisible to Observium if it's polling by hostname.
Adam.

Hello,
i had to change the ip address of one server from 192.168.102.21 to 192.168.102.40. After that the server is shown as down. DNS works so far, dns resolution from observium gives me the new address.
Im sure it is a small problem, but i have no clue. Do i have to make a rediscover and if so how?
THX in advance
