Getting the files in the right place is left as an exercise for the user.

Smokeping isn't always 20 pings?

Hi Xinity,
Sure, I just downloaded the Smokeping package, installed it, setup a separate Apache site/dns/hostname for the smokeping server and then generated the targets for it using the script which was post a week or so ago. Then I followed the instructions on the Observium docs for enabling Smokeping integration - http://www.observium.org/wiki/Smokeping_Integration which tells it where to go.
The key element in getting it working is matching the hostnames that Observium has with top-level targets on smokeping. The script was perfect for this, I’ve attached it for you but take no credit for it.
Finally, I setup a cron job to update the targets in Smokeping every night and ‘reload’ Smokeping to ensure that whenever a new device is added to Observium it is then, within 24 hours, added to Smokeping.
Incidentally, I copied our existing smokeping installation settings (we have several other Smokeping servers at various locations) and this initially failed to work at all with Observium. On closer inspection it appears that Observium expects there to be (at least) 20 pings, as it references them by DS within the RRD all the way up to “ping20”. So make sure you don’t deviate from the default Smokeping general settings.
Hope that helps, and if anyone figures out what the bottom set of graphs should be displaying (i.e. what’s broken on our setup) then please do let me know J

Hi,
Just setup Smokeping integration (and generated targets using Michiel’s groovy script – thanks!). Anyway, it’s all working fine for all the hosts but I’m not sure what the 3rd graph on the Ping tab is meant to show, called localhost. It appears on every single host’s “Ping” tab.
Have I just failed to configured a hostname *somewhere* or is this graph meant to display something else? When you click on it you just get an “Insufficient Permissions” message, image attached for reference.
Any input or pointers as to what I’ve done wrong are welcome – cheers :)
