That depends what data you're talking about. Unix agent is no different to alerting than SNMP, but the status still is that you can only alert on the entities that are currently available.

Example: if you collect temperature sensor data through the agent, you can alert on it just like any other temperature sensor. If you're talking about something like mail queue size, that's still being planned out and not available yet.
