I was able to get just California to display by making the following changes in my config.php file:

$config['frontpage']['map']['region']              = "US-CA";
$config['frontpage']['map']['resolution']          = "provinces";

You can probably do something similar to display just NY or Amsterdam, not sure about both.

Any type of changes to regions, or map just got me an error. Is there a way of refining those displays?
