Theres actually an upper limit to the size of command line that rrdtool will accept, which I think ends up being shorter than the GET limit, since its hundreds of characters per port to generate the graph, as opposed to a handful of characters for each port_id.
Youre likely not going to have a good experience trying to aggregate a large number of ports into a single graph for any kind of day to day use just because it takes far too long to generate graphs from that many RRDs.

But it does highlight a potential scaling issue for some networks that have hundreds (if not thousands) of interfaces that they would like to aggregate. At some point, the URL is going to be longer than what most web browsers/servers will think of as a "reasonable" length and it will eventually get rejected. Also, the problem gets worse as your port_id length gets longer.

Hmm. Ive tried replicating this, but It seems to work ok for me.
This looks like an apache default error rather than anything generated by Observium. Is there anything in logs/error_log when this error happens?
