I am not running anything in production, I am looking at options at the moment. As the website notes, threshold and state alerting is only available with the subscription. I understand that it is important to get the updates but right now it doesn't make any difference.
I have already setup Observium but the alert menus are not visible.
The bottom line is that if I can't trial the functionality that we need, I won't get sign off for funding.

Don't subscribe for alerting, subscribe because it's dumb to run something in an operational environment without regular updates (subscription is primarily to get access to immediate updates rather than 6-monthly updates).
