but I think here Peter want any device/os/port mars as red :) which impossible without severity.

auto-shorten long hostnames on dots to make them fit into
fields, otherwise you'd get all manner of horrible things.
What is your naming scheme? It seems odd. Is the second part
identifying the host itself? What would you expect to be
