This is not an issue with "recent versions of MySQL".
This is an issue with "the config that oracle has decided to ship in their own packages".
This will never make it into any distribution, because it's dumb.

Hey everybody,
I don't know whether this already came up, but with recent versions of mysql (like in the latest openSUSE) many features (VLANs, Ports, Routing, Events) of observium are no longer accessible.
This is because of a new default "sql_mode = strict_trans_tables" which don't longer allow constructs like
INSERT INTO `ports-state` (`port_id`) VALUES ('4713')
in tables without default values for the other columns. The solution was a sql-mode="" in my.cnf.
I suppose this will sooner or later also hit Debian/ Ubuntu. Perhaps you might fix this in one of the following versions? Otherwise observium over fulfilled all my needs and wishes. Thank you for this wonderful piece of software!
