Yeah, this is the /complex/ form of distribution. I'm not sure if this is ever going to be realistic for us to implement.
We're very database heavy, so you either have the issue of being far from the device or being far from the database. You can already distribute the poller on to nearby two systems, so long as you can share access to the rrd directory and the database.
I'm not sure what a realistic solution to wanting to geographically distribute polling is, other than running multiple instances.
