If you just want port up/down, you can simplify the rule below. Notice that the counters to the far right all show “0,” meaning there is nothing being matched to the rule. No match means no e-mail alerts.

Try something like this:

Type: Port

Conditions (require all):

ifAdminStatus eq up
ifOperStatus eq down

Device: *
Entity: *

Like this, minus the Entity match of course:

Make sure you double-check your Conditions after you create the rule, as Observium currently doesn’t sticky the “all” or “any” selection on rule creation. There’s an open bug in Jira for it at the moment.

As for the current rule,  “hostname” isn’t  an Entity metric.  Both “os” and “hostname” are Device metrics. If any Device metric is used, the Entity should be * anyway, since you’re now matching on a device. You’d use an Entity, for example, when matching against all devices (*) but you want something within that device to match, such as a BGP peer or the power supply example below.

Can you possibly post the config lines you have relating to alert e-mail sending? Sanitize as necessary. Also, a full shot of one of the alerts (Such as your first one, the "Im Down" alert) showing all the configuration of that as well.

Thanks,

I’m a noob and I apologize.
I’m having trouble determining if it’s the Alert Checkers I am setting up that is not sending me mail or if it’s the new mail settings.
I’ve just moved from the old alerts to the new ones.

A test goes as follows:

administrator@network-monitoring:/opt/observium$ ./test_mail.php -h apc-pdu-02.purafilter2000.com
Observium v0.14.10.5859
Test E-mail Configuration

Try send test notification for apc-pdu-02.purafilter2000.com to these email(s):
Notification for apc-pdu-02.purafilter2000.com SENT.

I do have POSTFIX installed.
And below is an image of a few of my alerts I’ve been trying:

Assistance would be awesome. I want device down/up, ping, port utilization, some stuff for storage, etc. However, if someone could point me in the right direction on getting alerts from one checker I think I can noodle my way around the others.

Thanks.
