thanks for answering.
But it was another fault.
Because of the debugging messages in Apache error.log I overlooked the crucial line:
PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 32 bytes)
I raised the limit and now it’s working again.
