
Well this is nothing to do with laziness but personal preference of somebody who wants run it on sub-folder and faster setup.
There no cons running it as sub-folder, well except it doesn't work and not supported of course for now. I just not really understand why you fighting this small sub-folder thingy too much.
But I get your point, hackish way isn't best way to provide support for this subfolder thing, as it tend to break your door and eat your dog.
