your device should send "down" messages with Error (3) severity (priority).
(or Critical (2) or Alert (1)) all of this displayed as red entry..

 We auto-shorten long hostnames on dots to make them fit into fields,
 otherwise you'd get all manner of horrible things. What is your naming
 scheme? It seems odd. Is the second part identifying the host itself?
