As Ahmed said, it’s often difficult to give a step by step for this sort of thing, because the only things you’re likely to have trouble with are the things that are specific to your installation.
Ideally you just need to dump the database and copy the rrd directory and config.php
When restoring you just need to insert the database dump right after you create the database in the instructions, and then copy over the rrds and config.php before you run any of the Observium commands (add_user/poller/discovery/etc) that might be mentioned in the instructions.
The potentially tricky bit is just getting the passwords for dumping and inserting the database.
Adam.

Hi Shaun,
These are all standard linux procedures and you'll find plenty of online tutorials for backing up your database (hint: 'mysqldump') and files (hints: 'tar', 'cp', 'rsync').
Depending on how you set up your server these need to be adapted to fit the situation.
Usually the database is called 'observium' and files are located at /opt/observium/config.php, /opt/observium/rrd and /opt/observium/logs.
Optionally, you may disable the cron jobs during backup at /etc/cron.d/observium (or anywhere your install decided to drop them)
HTH,
Ahmed.

Hi Ahmed
Thank you very very much for your response.
Is there perhaps an online document or manual you can refer me to in order to get the actual steps / commands for achieving the backups you have pointed out?
Excuse my lack of understanding this, I am very new to Linux distributions and deployments.
Thanking you in advance

Hi all
I hope and trust everyone is keeping well and safe during this time.
Can anyone please assist me, I am trying to make a backup of my Observium installation to move it to a "bigger" system / machine, I installed the application to see how it worked and to test features, needless to say that I love it, and have subsequently set it up to monitor my entire WISP network. However, I unfortunately did not pay much attention to the system's specifications, as it was not initially intended to be a permanent deployment, not knowing what to expect or that it would turn out to be such a wonderful tool.
Please could you advise on a step by step procedure to enable me to make a full backup of the installation / database / configs in order to migrate it to a more future proof system, bearing in mind that my Linux experience is very limited.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated
Stay safe
Regards, Shaun

Hi Shaun,
The process is quite straightforward as far as I could test:
- backup your config.php file
- backup rrd directory
- backup the database (mysqldump)
- backup logs directory (if you need those, else just skip this step)
Restore those elements as is on the new deployment, and you should be up and running in no time.
Cheers,
