How many ports == "LARGE INSTALLS"?
Whenever mysql becomes the bottleneck due to your different running pollers fighting for it. I'd say, for 8 or more concurrent pollers. But we don't really have a lot of data from people with such
deployments.
What sort of data are you looking for? I don't know a lot about MySQL performance tuning, but i've recently had to move to more than 8 concurrent pollers on at least two different sites.
runtime stats from observium.log from before and after setting $config['slow_statistics'] = FALSE (and/or enabling memcached, but that will slow things slightly after removing slow_statistics)
adam.
