[Observium] future of Service Monitoring & Discovery

Hello Obversium-List,

I've read on the wiki (http://observium.org/wiki/Services) that Services are going to be removed in future. Will there be a replacement without extra software on the clients?

Alternatively, whats the most efficient way of monitoring TCP/UDP Port states when Services are being removed?
