You sometimes have luck upgrading the software, or hoping for a future implementation, but often it's a limitation of the ASICs involved, or just that the vendor doesn't see any utility in implementing the counters.
It's a hardware limitation in the older cards. The newer cards support it but they don't expose the counters in a logical manner (ie. the IF-MIB tables still return 0). The CER-RT is loosely based off the gen 1.1 cards so it won't get support, the new 4x10G CER is the same.
The counters are available in brcdVlanExtStatsTable on supported hardware.
