Hi Thibault,

You need to modify the SNMP transport for the device to "UDP6" (Device > Properties > SNMP):

Observium passes this to snmp* because it needs to differentiate between udp and tcp, and unfortunately net-snmp then doesn't do v6+4 fallback, but you need to explicitly tell it v4 or v6.
Your manual action didn't specify a transport so it automatically tried both.

If you add an ipv6-only host from scratch, Observium sets this to udp6 automatically (I think?) but if you change it afterwards it's a manual change.

This error is being reported by snmpget. Are you *sure* snmpwalk works?

Please don’t modify things you copy and paste, it’s sort of worthless for diagnosing anything, since we have no idea what the commands being run actually were.

Adam.

Subject: [Observium] Monitoring IPV6 only host

Hello,

I’ve removed IPV4 address to some monitored Linux host

Before the removal, those hosts were correctly monitored.

My Observium host is both IPV4 and IPV6 connected.

I’m using the really latest one stable version : Observium Professional 21.12.11831

I’m able to make manual SNMP requests from the Observium host to the IPV6 hosts

snmpwalk -v 2c -c PRIVATE_SNMP_COMMUNITY FQDN-IPV6

This first command is successful but this second one shows me an error :

/opt/observium/poller.php -d -h FQDN-IPV6

...

CMD[/usr/bin/snmpget -v2c -c *** -Pud -OQUsn -m SNMPv2-MIB -M /opt/observium/mibs/rfc:/opt/observium/mibs/net-snmp 'udp':' FQDN-IPV6':'161' .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0 .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0]

CMD EXITCODE[1]

CMD RUNTIME[0.0045s]

STDOUT[

]

STDERR[

snmpget: Unknown host (udp: FQDN-IPV6:161)

]

SNMP STATUS[FALSE]

o Device status        Device is not responding to SNMP requests

RRD /opt/observium/rrd/ FQDN-IPV6/status.rrd already exists - no need to create.

Is it a known limitation ? Did I do something wrong ?

Best Regards

Thibault
