Why let smtp auth on a deprecated configuration example ? We have a lot of applications who use embedded SMTP with TLS with no problem and with a log stack when authentication goes wrong. MTA configuration on linux are source of problem too and could add a SPOF on our monitoring application. Is there actually an alert table entry with the id of 1? We normally recommend that people don't use SMTP, because it /always/ seems to cause problems. A local MTA on the Observium server is the recommended way. Adam. We now use test_alert.php, which takes the argument of -a and an alert entry id, and will generate notifications for all contacts associated with that alert entry. Adam.
