Yeah, just match on hostname *, that’s the easiest way to do a catch all association.

I’m not sure why the unified associations rule system is so confusing. It’s basically just both systems smushed together with point and click using the same format.

We intentionally don’t use “ALL” as a default because it’d result in a lot of people accidentally creating tens of thousands of alert entries for sensors and the like.

Adam.

Here's my alert checker. It is completely dynamic for every new host that comes along. Matches the docs almost exactly.

If you are trying to match devices based on hostnames etc, then I've found it easiest to use 'Device Hostname match *' and not try to select from them pick list. You can then add additional conditions to exclude certain hosts if you like (we exclude build lab devices from most alerting for instance - so in our case, we exclude those based on their sysLocation).

Hope this helps,

Michael

Milton, I disagree, for example, how do you set up a rule to apply to all devices (past and future)?  It appears you cannot, however, you could in the past and that are what all the examples show.

I like observium quite a lot, however, its these things (like documentation that is not current) that can really frustrate a user.

The only thing that has really change is the association rule set. Instead of it being a text entry like the test conditions, there is now an expression builder, but the fields and operators are still the same. That should be easier that before. The test/check condition documentation is still relevant. That hasn't changed.

This is what modern version looks like, unfortunately, there are no docs for this.

I can't really say what "modern" Observium looks like, I haven't updated our SVN pull for a while. But the version we are running has Test Conditions and the syntax for those looks like what is on the examples page, so I assumed that this should still be relevant. Hopefully Pieter can figure it out from there.

There is a problem with these examples, they don’t work for modern Observium.  Now that observium uses test conditions and “association rulesets”, the documentation is broke and you cannot implement these examples the way they are shown.

It would be REALLY helpful to have updated documentation.  I am stull struggling with checkers because it is all trial and error.

Use ifInOctets_perc, an example of this is in the docs.

Hi All,

Is there a way to alert on port usage percentage ? If so, what is the metric called ?

We are *currently* on CE.

Thanks,

Pieter
