Hi Ron,

Yes, it’s been doing that from the beginning.

Highly suspect I have a probable cause, just wanted to cross check field feedback with you folks out there.

Thanks.

I think you answered your own original question with this statement:

All others devices of the same vendor/model are just fine. I know this one in particular has an old OS version running with crappy SNMP implementation.

I’ve personally observed some of the hardware in my network, if I hit it hard with a couple of manual snmpbulkwalk commands, it spikes the CPU and the device will actually stop responding to SNMP queries for a number of seconds. If, coincidentally, the Observium poller happened to hit that device right at that same time, it would similarly cause a device status change to down, then back up again 5 minutes later.

As you said, that “long due for upgrade” should probably be done.

….Ron

No, I’m handling all these aspects so I can guarantee it’s not a firewalling issue. Moreover, all the devices in all our POPs I poll in our MGMT VRF are sitting behind the same firewall. None is misbehaving except for this particular one.

Other thing, I’m seeing the same behavior as before it completely stopped responding ie rapid and continuous flaps of SNMP reachability (UPs and DOWNs).

It’s been doing that for a few days nows.

BR.

Someone in your office was messing with a firewall.

Hello,

Our emails has crossed. No, it’s not that, ping is just fine.

It seems that running a simple snmpwalk triggered some kind of reaction.

Device is now back online again.

Best regards.

It's probably no longer responding to ping.

Dear all,

I have an MLXe-4 router running NI5.4d (long due for upgrade) that just stopped polling out-of-the-blue earlier today :

Still, device is behaving OK and responsive to snmpwalk from Observium server AND from an old Cacti server we are still using AND from vendor NMS (called Brocade Network Advisor).

Is there anything I can do to revive it ? Maybe launch a new discovery ?

Thanks.
