I have similar issues with a Mikrotik - but for us it's for a VPN tunnel between two Mikrotik devices - every time the tunnel drops it instantly gets recreated, but presumably now has a different interface index in SNMP (even though the interface name is the same). Does also mean we have lots of RRD files - just looking there are 506 rrds for that device, totalling over 800Mb, dating back to June. Perhaps I need to do some housekeeping...

Joining ports is not an option unfortunately, you can copy the RRD file from the old port to the new one's though - but that'll remove data added in between the switch and now.
