If you look at your debug output, the walk of ifXEntry is returning nothing. Run the walk command manually with the correct community and see what you get.
My guess is some horrible virtual-chassis related bug.
Discovery probably only walks ifAlias instead of the whole table.

When I run "ny-tor-sw1-2> show snmp mib walk ifXEntry | match ifAlias | no-more" on the switch, I see descriptions in the output.

We query both. They are separate tables.

Looks like it's querying ifEntry instead of ifXEntry. ifAlias is not a
part of the ifEntry object.

I don't see how this is possible. Show output from ./poller.php -h ny-tor-sw1.mgt.peer1.squarespace.net <http://ny-tor-sw1.mgt.peer1.squarespace.net> -m ports -d Thanks, Adam. Have you tried updating? You're about 60 revisions out of date. After adding the switch and running discovery.php, interface descriptions are recognized just fine, however when the device gets polled for the first time, all interface descriptions get removed. I checked it with snmpwalk and I can see interface descriptions in the output.
