Hi Altan

Is there a reason you dont move your monitor out in to “the cloud” ? Where presumably the internet is more reliable?

Also wondering if you could do the divert at the mail destination layer? Locally MTA catches alerts@yourdomain, pipes it to a simple script which checks to see if you can see the outside world and then allows it to pass or diverts it as appropriate.  Meaning you dont change Observium at all?

Ok. I understand this but not completely :).  Thank you very much for your time. I am thinking to try to write a script as checking conditions to stop alerting for temp. Do you think it will be a waste of time?

It's difficult to solve this specifically for a platform like observium because our polling cycles take a very very long time, so we can't do dependencies without either failing to prevent half of the alerts, or delaying all alerts for a full poller cycle.

Thank you Adam for your response, apprentice it.

Internet is okay but you know sometimes it happens due to bad weather, construction, etc.. and then we receive email saying all devices in other sites are down.

So you think there is no such solution for this.

Hi,

There isn't a good solution to this. Because of timing issues, we can't reliably know if *another* device is up or down when alerting for a device.

It's probably a bad idea to be doing important monitoring/alerting if you have unreliable connectivity though.
