The patch modifies the code to *only* work in a subdirectory.
We don't support running in a subdirectory because none of the development team (and indeed none of the large installations who've contributed to the project) run in a subdirectory.
Historically whenever support for running in a subdirectory was hacked to work, it subsequently broke in later versions. For this reason we don't provide the ability to do it, because we can't guarantee that it will continue to work in any future version.
We prefer to spend our development resources on adding new features and fixing bugs that impact the majority of users, rather than pandering to the personal preference and/or laziness of the minority.
Setting up a subdomain is not difficult, particularly for the target market of Observium.

Can it be added? If the included patch does work, it doesn't seem like
it
would be that much trouble. It would be nice to have the choice.

Nope, it is not supported.

But with a few modifications it works (at least for my home installation). Patch can be found on<http://puther.home.xs4all.**

Is it possible to use observium on a webserver as a subdirectory, i.e. https://server/observium? I'm a small shop that's part of a bigger organization& I don't have access to DNS to create a subdomain. Apologies if this has been answered already. I did a quick search& saw a similar
question asked, but the thread didn't seem to contain an answer I
could
see.
