Dear all,
Has anyone had any success in using observium with idracs? The auto discover doesn't appear to find any useful sensors other than the physical nic of the idrac itself. Has anyone else worked on support for idracs?
All the best

Hi Rob,
Most dracs don't do SNMP for sensors; I've been told version 8 will/does. Try adding IPMI credentials to the device setup (or even more logical, add the DRAC IPMI credentials to the device the BMC is actually in).

Working for iDrac7's on R620's here (via IPMI). Added a readonly users to the iDrac with network access allowed, configured under 'IPMI Settings' on the host in observium, 'IPMI Interface' needs to be 'IPMI v2.0 RMCP+'
Tested via CLI from the observium host first like so
ipmitool -I lanplus -H ip-address-of-idrac -U readonlyuser -P secretreadonlypassword sensor
Works great. Power usage on the system is a wonderful thing :)

Set the encryption key to all zeroes, if it's not already, and it should work fine with Observium/default ipmitool usage.

Hi Colin,
OK. What user level? Only Administrator seems to work (there's user and operator).
Thanks.
Hi Gavin
I started out with Administrator level access too, and cut it back to User with some trial and error after I got it working at that level.
Here's some screenshots of what works for me... Dell R710 and R720 servers with recent iDRAC software - 1.96 on the one I just looked at.
ipmitool needs to specifically told to use "User" level privileges, it will default to "Administrator". Thanks Colin!
Just tested. Didn't need iDRAC login access or the serial port priv access as user (is set to none). So *user* level for all and this is fine:
ipmitool -I lanplus -L user -H xxx -U observium -P xxx sensor
Hi Colin,
After testing and adding the details under that devices IPMI settings, what else is needed? I don't see any new graphs?
Will check the observium logs.
Thanks.
Hi again,
All working but I had to put in the IPMI host/ip address and port. Would it not default to the actual SNMP host and default IPMI port (UDP 623?)
It's pulled in Fanspeed and Temp but not power or anything else? Is that a setting I should change?
Gavin.
Power seems to only show on iDRAC7 not iDRAC6 as the column is empty on the 6.
Thanks.
Hi,
No, it would not make any sense to default to the SNMP host. The BMC runs on a separate IP from the actual server. (Unless you're adding a management controller via SNMP, like a DRAC, that is true).
If you don't fill in a hostname, the IPMI configuration is incomplete and not used, so yes, you need to fill in the hostname/IP. Port defaults to 623.
If it's not pulling in other data, your BMC is not providing it.

Yes, a management card but get your point.
Thanks.
Does anyone know a way to add an ipmi only device (i.e. one that does not have snmp)?
