Hi all,
Does anyone know how to override the ‘ifAlias’ setting? Just like the ‘sysLocation’? We have a lot of network devices which are not able to give a port description, what is very annoying cause we have to go physical to a switch to find out which device is behind the port. I know a lot of settings can be configured in config.php, does anyone know a configline to manual setup a portdescription (ifAlias)?
Many thanks in advance!
Regards, Jarno

Hi Jarno,
We don't yet allow manual setting of the ifAlias field, but it might not be that difficult to implement, should someone find time and motivation!

If/when that is done, overriding ifSpeed (up and down independently) would also be appreciated!
Thanks, Mark

It seems that speed is not recorded as an up and down value. (click the data icon on the port page)

Yeah, we probably won't do up/down, since devices don't report data that way.

Sure, but when it is needed to be overridden, both would be handy (e.g., asymmetric broadband).
Thanks, Mark

Nowhere else in the code do we have any provision for asymmetrical speeds.

And yet, given they do exist in the world, it sure would be nice to be able to set alarms based on percentages without having to make every alert customized to a specific bandwidth. I'm sure that will be the solution at least for the time being, though.
Thanks, Mark

editing html/pages/device/edit/ports.inc.php and changing echo("<td>". $port['ifIndex']."</td>");
to echo("<td><a href="device/device=". $device ['device_id']."/tab=edit/section=single_port/port=".$port['port_id']."">". $port['ifIndex']."</a></td>");
will give us a hyperlink to single_port.inc.php (which doesn't exist yet) and that works a treat, but is propably not the correct way to change pages.
what i need to know next, is how to get the port_id off the command line and into the php - OR - how to change pages so that port_id is valid.
looking at snmp.inc.php, device_id is just magically there. I'm guessing it is handed in by another process. $device = device_by_id_cache($device['device_id'], $ok);
for us to use anything, we will propbably need something like $port = get_port_by_id_cache($port_id);
I have some fibre switches which have no ifAlias entries at all, and it would be nice to be able to fill out the info without having to learn the DB structure and inject sql commands.
thanks
