Re: [Observium] ARP Table empty
It requires SNMP contexts, which are a pain. We've been wary of using them because then can cause huge poller delays on devices which don't support them.

Hi,
Thanks for the answer...
The "Switchmap"-Project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/switchmap/) is able to pull out the MAC address table from Cisco switches. It would be really nice if Observium would be able to do it too, so I don't need to have that many tools =) I tried to see how Switchmap is doing it, but I did have some troubles understanding it =(

arp table is different, if you want "show mac address-table" Cisco doesn't support q-bridge-mib, which is need to show you this kind information.

Hi list,
The "ARP Table" on all ports is empty (f.e. /device/device=95/tab=port/port=13844/view=arp/), I'm wondering why... Shouldn't there be listed all MAC addresses in the MAC address table ("show mac address-table")? Or is this really just the MAC<->IP table? If yes, are MAC addresses tables saved in the Observium database to see which MAC address is on which switchport? Looking at the "ARP Table" from all Ports (f.e. /device/device=95/tab=ports/view=arp/) there are MAC adresses which belongs to an IP address.
All devices are Cisco Switches or Brocade Router.

Maybe disable the module globally and then enable for devices which do?
Or bail out after the first VLAN time out or so?

I'd go with disabled by default, if you need enable it manually as we know this is dirty workaround and can slowdown things. Better bog your cisco accounting team to implement right :)
