I’m having an issue where it seems that host down alerts are always delayed. Where can I start with troubleshooting this issue? Note that alerts are working, but something seems to not work with host down alerts.[cid:A108895F-C5AE-4C29-B6A5-9A3D5BA08BAE]

I’m also seeing other alerts that are doing the same thing, like CPU, seems very odd.
Is there a SQL query I can or something to help trouble shoot this?
Just looking for some guidance on this.

Note that alerts are sent when alerter.php is run, not during the poller.
If you aren't running it under poller-wrapper and it's being run by cron, that might explain!
Or perhaps not!
Alerts which are delayed will be shown in that state on the alert pages. Orange, I think.

It usually means your MySQL server has run out of heap space.
Alert entries (and entries for port stats and some other things) are held in MySQL memory tables, which need heap space.
You can change the heap size in your my.cnf :
[mysqld] tmp_table_size=2G max_heap_table_size=2G 2GB might be OTT, depends how big your deployment is :)

Ahh. I see. Mysqli is enforcing strict mode, for some reason.
Well get that fixed soon :)
Adam.

Running that module with -d should give more information. ./discovery.php -h <host> -m wifi -d Adam. When I remove the mysqli db extension from my config.php and run the same discovery it runs without issue:
Module [ ucd-diskio ] time: 0.0753s Wifi: RUCKUS-RADIO-MIB UU RUCKUS-WLAN-MIB +UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU+++++++++++UUUUUUUU+++++
The version information from my Observium installation is:
Observium 0.15.6.6458 OS Linux 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 [amd64] (CentOS 6.4) Apache 2.2.15 (CentOS) PHP 5.3.3 Python Python 2.6.6 MySQL 5.1.66 (extension: mysqli 5.1.66) SNMP NET-SNMP 5.5 RRDtool 1.3.8
I also added the following line to my php.ini:
extension=/usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqli.so
This points to the file:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 136032 Feb 21 2013 /usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqli.so
Is there anything else that needs to be configured in order to start using the mysqli db extension with Observium?
Thank you.

I’m not sure what is considered a large deployment, we have 566 devices, 35018 ports, and 14198 sensors.
I made the change you suggested, restart mysqld, and ran alerter.php –h all
This seems to resolve the issue. I can see the alerts in state other going down.
