smokeping ping tab now showing up on device
H Guys,
I'm having a problem with getting smokeping working with some of my devices. I have smokeping setup and it's working correctly ( I'm able to go to the smokeping cgi and see the graphs, etc). However the ping tab for smokeping isn't showing up for the device in observium. The device name is the same in both observium and smokeping. However, it's working fine for one of my switches but not the rest. I don't beleive it's a permission as I'm able to get it working with one of our switches.
I added the following to my config for smokeping:
$config['smokeping']['dir'] = "/var/lib/smokeping/";mailto:observium@observium.org
The device in question is a cisco 3825 router.
Observium CE 0.14.4.5229 Apache 2.2.22 (Ubuntu) PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.15 MySQL 5.5.40-MariaDB SNMP NET-SNMP version: 5.4.3 RRDtool 1.4.7

Does the hostname in smokeping match the hostname in Observium?

Yes, they do - same case and spelling in both. I tried setting the smokeping data directing to chmod 777 to see if it was a permission issue but that didn't change anything. It's working for one switch but I have no idea why. I can't get it to work with anything else.

Open up a tab (ie ports) on the device; replace "ports" by "showtech" in the URL - check the smokeping section.

Showtech..neat trick. I remember now why underscores in the hostname do not work.
Obs Hostname is *fountain_sw1.domain.com http://fountain_sw1.domain.com *but it is not matching since rrd is written out with underscores instead of . I just haven't got around to changing the hostname.
- Found file ending in ".rrd": fountain_sw1_domain_com.rrd - Determined to be a local file, for target *fountain_sw1_domain_com* - After replacing configured split_char _ by . target is *fountain.sw1.domain.com http://fountain.sw1.domain.com*

You can change the split char to something non-colliding if you don't feel like renaming a/multiple host(s) :-)
