Tom, Is there a good write up on the new alerting system? I've seen various generic / site specific examples but no documentation that shows me what I can alert on and how to go about setting it up. If you could point me in the right direction or give me some tips I'd appreciate it.
In the new alerting system you can differentiate between snmp is down and ping is down (device_status_type will be either 'ping' or 'snmp').

Thanks!

Hi,
There's only these 2 pages at the moment unfortunately:
http://observium.org/wiki/Creating_an_Alert_Checker http://observium.org/wiki/Alerting_Metrics_and_Attributes
I'm planning to do a writeup with example alert checks on this in the near future, stay tuned.

Josh,
By default it is using the sysContact (either you set it on the device, or you do a per-device override in the device's settings in Observium).
The only other option you have is to override it for all alerts to send them to a default address:
$config['alerts']['email']['default'] = 'noc@mydomain.tld'; $config['alerts']['email']['default_only'] = TRUE; ## Only use default recipient
Tom
