Hi all,
Is there a way to force a device to be treated as a different kind of device when it is polled? I've tried changing the "Type" under "Device Settings" but this does not have the desired effect.
Reason for asking, we have several UPS systems which are successfully being polled by Observium (all are Reillo units, running NetMan Plus cards). We also have another system which is running a CS121 card (in a PW9000 DPA-250kVA unit). This system is polled by our Cacti server in exactly the same way as the Riello units and we get the same data from all of them. However, Observium will not see this UPS as a UPS, just a "Generic Device" and as such will not poll it for RFC1628 OIDs.
Any ideas on a fix or 'tweak' to make it think it's a UPS and poll it?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Riello should work, I have the same one at work ;-)
The device type indeed has no relation to the "OS" that it is detected as. It's best to add detection for this brand/type of UPS either to an existing OS, if it's already there, or add a new one.
A quick google shows "powerwave" for the brand? What exactly is it, and how does it identify itself? :-)

Hi Tom,
Thanks for that, I've actually (sort of) got it working by modifying it's DB entry to 'netmanplus' and now it is seeing about 50% of the values correctly. The rest are either zero or are 10x what they should be (presumably where the Powerwave system places the decimal).
I expect the next step beyond this is far more involved as I've actually achieved what I was asking but it doesn't give all of the information. So I'll leave it there for now and come back to it in a few weeks when I've finished this current project I'm on at the moment.
Thanks again!
