Cisco ASA Reporting -nan on interface graphs.
Hi
I have a Cisco 5525-X being polled from Observium, everything is fine except all the traffic graphs for the interfaces are reporting -nan as a value and showing no data.
The environmental graphs such as temp, CPU etc are all OK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Steve

Does snmpwalk report any values for if-MIB?

Run the poller manually and see if there are any issues, or if it exits early :
./poller.php -h <hostname or device_id>
It should always end with the : "MySQL: Cell[0/0s] Row[8/0s] Rows[33/0.02s] Column[0/0s] Update[72/0.05s] Insert[2/0.02s] Delete[0/0s]" line, else something broke.
It's next to impossible for the ports poller to not work on individual devices, as it's all just IF-MIB, probably the most standard MIB around.
adam.
Hi Adam
Yes it appears to complete OK, output :
Vlan | MAC | Port (dot1d|ifIndex) | Status ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Module time: 0.0012sping ping_snmp uptime processor mempool netstat_snmp netstat_snmp_pkt cipsec_flow_tunnels cipsec_flow_pkts cipsec_flow_bits cipsec_flow_stats cras_sessions poller_perf Polled in 17.6755 seconds UPDATED! MySQL: Cell[1/0s] Row[7/0s] Rows[33/0.01s] Column[0/0s] Update[68/0.11s] Insert[6/0.18s] Delete[0/0s]
Still the graphs show no data, which is in direct contradiction of the device itself.
Cheers

Is there output from the ports poller in there?
Something like :
Port virbr0(3) HC Octets, HC UcastPkts, VLAN == bps(10.0kbps/1.97kbps)bytes(204kB/40.1kB)pk
The fact that you get NaN instead of a graph error means that it has created the RRDs.
Does the web interface show the bps/pps rates for the port in the table displays?
adam.

Hi,

Something like :

The fact that you get NaN instead of a graph error means that it has created the RRDs.
And check the ownership of those RRDs. Sander
Adam,
Interfaces showing zero bytes, very odd as I spent an hour today streaming HD video to generate some traffic across the interface.
The odd thing is here, is that the upstream switch which is also in Observium records the traffic fine. I am wondering if it's because we have a port channel on the ASA rather than straight interfaces.
Output :
Observium v0.13.8.4238 Poller

It's next to impossible for the ports poller to not work on individual devices, as it's all just IF-MIB, probably the most standard MIB around.

Do you have anything 'unusual' about your SNMP configuration?
Port channels should work just like any other interface, and it's strange you're not getting statistics for the other interfaces.
Try running:
./poller.php -h 18 -m ports -d -r
And send me the output directly to adama@memetic.org. You probably want to strip out the SNMP community too.

It's next to impossible for the ports poller to not work on individual devices, as it's all just IF-MIB, probably the most standard MIB around.

Do you have anything 'unusual' about your SNMP configuration?
Port channels should work just like any other interface, and it's strange you're not getting statistics for the other interfaces.
Try running:
./poller.php -h 18 -m ports -d -r
And send me the output directly to adama@memetic.org. You probably want to strip out the SNMP community too.

Adam,
Interfaces showing zero bytes, very odd as I spent an hour today streaming HD video to generate some traffic across the interface.
The odd thing is here, is that the upstream switch which is also in Observium records the traffic fine. I am wondering if it's because we have a port channel on the ASA rather than straight interfaces.

Hi all, this same issue is affecting me too, with two Cisco switches. Was there a solution to this?
If I use a MIB Browser, I can see the data throughput on the ports, but Observium shows zero data. The rest of the auto-detections work with CPU usage, port info, changes etc displayed.
I know data is going through these ports but the poller says none.
sample poller.php output (all ethernet ports show 0B/0B and 0pps):
Port VLAN1(1) replacing with 64-bit...VLAN == bps(0bps/0bps)bytes(0B/0B)pkts(0pps/0pps) Checking alerts
Port FastEthernet0/1(2) replacing with 64-bit...VLAN == 1bps(0bps/0bps)bytes(0B/0B)pkts(0pps/0pps) Checking alerts
Port FastEthernet0/2(3) replacing with 64-bit...VLAN == 1bps(0bps/0bps)bytes(0B/0B)pkts(0pps/0pps) Checking alerts
Run the poller in debug mode and check that it's correctly putting data into the RRDs :
./poller.php -h <host> -m ports -d
For example, I ran the poller twice and checked the values for the same port :
bps(155kbps/170kbps)bytes(645kB/709kB)pkts(50.5pps/57.4pps)RRD[cmd[update /mnt/ramdisk/observium_dev/alpha.memetic.org/port-2.rrd N:2170514919861:3218207596062:0:0:2996618646:3146176678:0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0]
bps(132kbps/201kbps)bytes(499kB/762kB)pkts(69.7pps/75.0pps)RRD[cmd[update /mnt/ramdisk/observium_dev/alpha.memetic.org/port-2.rrd N:2170515431396:3218208376547:0:0:2996620807:3146179005:0:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0]
You should see the RRD pipe's output under the command :
stdout[OK u:0.00 s:0.00 r:1.58] stderr[]]
Then I can verify that the numbers got to RRD by checking the file :
root@alpha:/home/observium/dev# rrdtool info /mnt/ramdisk/observium_dev/alpha.memetic.org/port-2.rrd filename = "/mnt/ramdisk/observium_dev/alpha.memetic.org/port-2.rrd" rrd_version = "0003" step = 300 last_update = 1394165067 header_size = 14248 ds[INOCTETS].index = 0 ds[INOCTETS].type = "DERIVE" ds[INOCTETS].minimal_heartbeat = 600 ds[INOCTETS].min = 0.0000000000e+00 ds[INOCTETS].max = 1.2500000000e+10 ds[INOCTETS].last_ds = "2170515431396"
You'll probably find we're not getting the correct numbers. I don't remember what the issue was in Steve's case, but I do remember it was nothing to do with us.
adam.

Hi, thanks for your reply. It doesnt seem to see any data on the port when I run that command (see output at end of post).
If I use iReasoning MIB browser and do an SNMP walk, ifInOctets.21 (port 20) shows 212492177, and a couple seconds later shows 212532659. So it appears as though the switch is showing data thrugh via SNMP. The other active ports also have data increasing on the ifInOctets SNMP entry.
Got any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks for the response Adam. Not sure exactly which output you need, but heres two samples from the snmpbulkwalk command ouput:
(as you can see many ports are not connected, thus have 64 as data in)

What did Observium send to RRD for that poll?
I suspect you're having snmpwalks fail intermittently half way through.

Hi Adam, here is some more output. I ran the poller in verbose and cut/paste from the first section, then from where it updates SQL and RRDs.
It's not writing data for any ports and is happening to two of our switches. The rest of them work fine.
