Under Device Settings - Device properties - there is device type. I’d like to add router and switch there. Checked the mailing list archive. Nothing conclusive on how to do this. Does not look like something in a config file. Checked there as well.
Is this used someplace other then he device menu subtree for grouping?
Justin
In my head these things are semi-deprecated in favour of groups.
Once I come up with a method of doing that stuff automatically (putting it into menus, etc) :)

I was thinking about how to put the groups into the menus, but what would these menu items do? There is already a quick way from the overview page to get to the various group definitions, but there isn't a quick way to get to the graphs or any real information about the entities/devices easily. So that is what I think the menu items should take you do. This would probably be a new variant of a device/health page so you leverage all the existing page layout code.
Also now that the sensor types have been temporarily(?) ripped out, there are some things you can no longer do with the groups on the health page because the search drop down does not look at generic sensor groups, only sensor specific groups. I did a quick hack to force in generic sensor types, but you get weird behaviors if your group doesn't match the sensor type being viewed because there are no matching entities in the group.
It seems that the generic sensor type was probably something you had around earlier and you don't want to rip it out due to existing usage, but having both causes confusion. I came in late to Observium, so I thought the specific sensor types made more sense to me, since they matched up with how all the data was being presented. Now things are just a little inconsistent.
One suggestion for the Wiki. Can you put the two pages linked on the page below under the Documentation category? I tend to use the category as my primary index and get confused when I can't find those two pages. Not sure who else does this.
